A for Akemi

Akemi
A Japanese name meaning bright and beautiful; red beauty

Most children of mixed Japanese heritage have both an English name and Japanese name.  Except me.
(Probably because my Asian mother is extremely white-washed and my father is as
haole (white/foreigner) as they come)  It only dawned on me in high school that I didn't have a Japanese name.  So I asked my mom "why" and she simply said, "I don't know..." (typical).  So as an afterthought she gave me the name Akemi after a girl in her ballet class that she took when she was a child.
Little did she know the meaning of Akemi at the time was bright and beautiful.  Not that I think I am exceptionally bright or beautiful, I just think it's just a pleasant and optimistic meaning to one's name.  Like something you try to live up to or attain throughout your life, that as a person named Akemi, you have become
both bright and beautiful.  Or at least I hope to be that...one day.  But coincidentally, the color red looks amazing on me!

Alphabet Love

So I decided it would be fun to scroll through the Alphabet as a way to spark ideas for new entires
and posts.  Some letters may have only a few topics and some may have many...but all in all every letter will have their moments to bring something about themselves that I find intriguing, stimulating, tantalizing, or just simply ME to this ol' blog.

And so it begins...

If I Were In Long Beach...

...I'd be rockin these outfits, with this nail color. BAM!

A tad bit too INTENSE for little ol' Hilo, so I'll have to wait.  As my mom would say "Cassie! We are going to Longs, you don't have to be wearing heels! You da Hilo Hoochie!"  I take it as a compliment, I don't want to be wearing slippers all the time.
If I were to describe my style in a few words, it would be: Tight. Hoochie. High Heels. Gold. Black.

Magic In The Make Up

Don't Get It Twisted...

... I love Hawaii, but sometimes I feel I belong in NY.  It's been nine months since I walked its streets, and how I miss it so.

Current Obsession...Mariel Wedges

What you may not know is that I am an obsessive person, in the healthiest sense that is.  I go through phases of interests, and when I do I'm like motherfuckin Rain Man, absorbing all I can of that genre, event, topic, artist, food, flavor, color, brand...it's kinda bad, but I have soon become an Encyclopedia of somewhat useful, but mostly useless information on all sorts of things.  I have also developed a collection of books, movies, clothes, shoes, make up, and hair products all of the same brand.  I guess I just like linear and fully fleshed out concepts and themes.  Or maybe I'm a bit crazy...Or just fun...?
My newest obsession would be the Mariel Wedge by Jeffrey Campbell.  During a recent trip to SF's Haight Street, I purchased 2 paris of them (first two above) then just the other day bought the leopard ones...At $115 a piece, I succesfully blew over $300 on 3 pairs of shoes...guess I am crazy, but the shoes are fun!

Here's how other bloggers rock the Mariels...
