With the start of 2011, most people think about starting anew. Starting over, starting better life choices, and starting to change. Such a change may also require people to have closure on their past experiences and one way to do so is to give into FORGIVENESS.
I am a firm believer in forgiveness, and I can honestly say ever since I chose to let go of my harbored feelings of animosity and disappointment towards those who have wronged others and myself, I have become an all around happier individual. I find myself enjoying my time alone, my time with others, and even the tiny interactions with those who I once despised. One thing all must understand is that being human and having such human nature causes us to make mistakes. All people are capable of doing great things as well a terrible things. There are no excuses or explanations giving people a pass in doing wrong, but there are reasons, and if they can understand their reasons for doing wrong they can learn and mature into changed individuals. If one admits to doing wrong and displays change then who are we, as the same human species, to deny them the chance to be better and do better?
Unlike celebrities, who are people who make mistakes as well, regular people such as myself can make errors and not have them televised on E! or on the covers of Newstand Magazines. The unfortunate scrutiny that celebrities have are magnified due to their widely publicized failures and mistakes, but what is also seen are their triumphant returns to success which further empowers my belief in Forgiveness.
A few years ago Kate Moss was caught on camera snorting cocaine which led to many of her ad campaigns for multiple million dollar companies to drop her as well as a stint in rehab and an all around detrimental blow to her public image. Only a year after her incident, Kate Moss signed a string of campaigns with high end retailers to be the face of their seasons lines as well as teaming up with British retailer TopShop to release her own line of clothing. She rededicated herself to her work as well as making many public statements admitting to her wrong and her sadness in disappointing her fans and daughter. The increase in her publicity catapulted her face, name, and style back to the top of the fashion world with her later being honored as one of the best dressed women in the world as well as one of the main muses in The Met's exhibition The Model as Muse.
Michael Vick was one of the NFL superior Quarterbacks, but was quickly deemed the scum of the league when it surfaced that he was involved in a dog fighting ring. He was sentenced to jail and has since worked his way back to the NFL as the starting Quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles and having one of the best seasons of his career. Only until recently I have put aside my strong animal rights feelings and realized in my new profound understanding that humans have rights to forgiveness. Many people have spoken on behalf of Vick, claiming that he has truly changed as a man and player, and that although what he did was wrong he knows that and just wants to move forward.
Lastly is Chris Brown...this video says it all.
"i have enough self respect and decency to be proud of accomplishing this DV class.. Boyz run from there mistakes.. Men learn from them!!!thx"
